If you haven't seen them before, I usually see them used in newborn photography. The pictures are adorable!!

The yarn I used was Swish Tonal from Knit Picks and the color is called Canopy. I thought the shades of blue & green were perfect for it! It's a worsted yarn that is a little more expensive ($14.95 per hank) then what I usually order, but it is a 100 gram hank. It is 100% superwash merino wool so it is machine washable.

I ended up knitting this with 2 hanks at the same time to make it thicker. I used larger needles then what I've been knitting with too (size 13 circular). I love knitting with larger needles because it usually helps me finish my project so much faster! That's so nice when the only times I can knit are during Logan's nap times.

The cocoon is pretty stretchy but is about 18 inches long unstretched and is about 8 inches in diameter unstretched. I used a rolled brim for the opening so it can be rolled down if it needs to be shorter. I'm selling this for $45. If you would like to purchase this then please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com
Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734910317997211409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562685826327936588.post-33873824917170660212012-04-20T16:34:00.001-07:002012-04-25T14:38:52.165-07:00New baby hat for saleAfter knitting the bunny hats, I decided to knit some more baby hats but I wanted to make some that I've never made before. So I went looking through my large (and still growing) yarn stash, and found some "fancy" yarn that I've been meaning to use.

I really enjoyed working with this yarn because it is so soft! It is called Dream and is from Dark Horse Yarns. I got it from Yarn Heaven last year, and have been waiting for the inspiration to use it. :) The hardest part about it was undoing stitches (it's difficult to see where the stitches are when they aren't on the needle because of the fuzzy parts) and sewing in the ends. I had to learn a new technique since I didn't have large enough double-pointed needles (what I usually use when knitting baby hats). I used two circular needles (different lengths so I could tell them apart) that were size 13.
This is the result! I'm calling this the Fuzzy Who hat. Apparently all the Dr. Suess that I've been reading & watching with Logan are showing up in my work! Lol! This hat is for sale for $30 (more expensive yarn). It is very soft and made of 100% nylon. It's hand wash only. If you would like to buy it then email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com. This hat just sold!!
This is the Shiny Who hat & is now up for sale and is the same design as the first one. The yarn is different though. Instead of being fuzzy like the first one it is boucle but is soft too. It is shiny/metallic and has shades of blue and green. The yarn is from the Plymouth Italian Collection and is called Firenze Boucle. It is 30% wool, 30% acrylic, & 40% nylon. This hat is handwash only! I also got it last year from Yarn Heaven when I was in the Dallas area. I wish there was a yarn shop near me, but unfortunately there isn't.

I'm selling this hat for $35 (more expensive yarn) and it is sized 0-3 months. This hat would also make a great photography prop when taking baby pictures! :) If you would like to buy it then be the first to email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734910317997211409noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562685826327936588.post-8240313212679378332012-04-09T16:43:00.001-07:002012-04-14T18:01:30.347-07:00Happy Easter!I was so excited to begin knitting Logan's bunny hat for Easter, but I couldn't decide how I wanted to do it. I decided to do something a little different instead of just making it a solid color. I wanted to make a striped bunny hat, so I tried making it using blue and brown yarn that I already had on hand. It turned out way too dark, so I ordered some "Spring" colored yarn and hoped it would come in time for me to make it before Easter. Luckily it did and I was able to make his and I also made another to sell. I made Logan's out of blue and white yarn, but I couldn't decide what to do with the ears. In the end I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! What do you think?
Yea!! My son is about to be 3 months (on Friday) and is sleeping all night. Since I'm a little more rested, I have started to put my "itching to knit" fingers to work again.

I've started knitting a slip-stich sampler throw to work on color-work. So far I really like it! I don't knit very many blankets because they take so long to finish, and this one is going to be fairly large. So far every blanket I've made I've given away as gifts, but I think I'm going to keep this one. :)

I downloaded the free knitting pattern from the Lion Brand Yarn website. They suggest using Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn, but I'm using Knit Picks Brava Worsted yarn. I've never used this yarn before since it's pretty new to Knit Picks, but I'm liking it! It's 100% premium acrylic so it's pretty easy care which is what I needed. It's machine washable which is very important to me especially now! :) I'm using 9 different colors: Umber Heather, Paprika, Currant, Denim, Dublin, Cobblestone Heather, Fig, Camel Heather, & Solstice Heather. I'm also using my Addi Turbo circular knitting needles (my favorite needles) size 8 instead of straight needles.

The throw is made up of 6 large squares that are sewn together (my least favorite part!). Each square is worked the same except for the color combinations. The squares begin with a center square each and are then worked in a log cabin fashion by picking up stitches for each log.

I've never done much "color-work" before but since this pattern uses slip stitches, it's much easier then I thought it would be. I'm not looking forward to sewing all the ends of the yarn strands or sewing the large squares together however! Oh well...I think / hope it will turn out pretty. :)

I'm almost finished with the first large square, so I'll post pictures as I finish them.Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734910317997211409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562685826327936588.post-12657444390987062992011-12-07T11:01:00.000-08:002011-12-07T11:01:26.772-08:00Baby Logan's Hats
These are some baby hats that I've made for my son, Logan, who should be here in about 5 days!

I love fingerless gloves, because they keep my hands warm while letting me still use my fingers. I can knit, type, and walk/give my dogs treats without worrying about getting the gloves filthy or ruining them.

These fingerless gloves are from a design by Cathleen Campbell (from the book Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders) and use both cables and eyelets. I love the design!

I think I need to grow some more arms lol! I'm working on an order of four baby hats for someone that is having twins (a boy and a girl), and I've just about finished two of them. I'll post some pictures when I'm done with them.

I'm also working on some more fingerless gloves (this pair will be decorated with chevron lace) using sock yarn, and I'm continuing to work on a scarf that is also made of sock yarn (which is why it is taking longer to finish it). I love sock yarn (a much thinner yarn usually) since it comes in so many different colors and patterns!

Since I'm working on a few different projects, I thought it would be a good time to post some pictures of some of my past knitted projects. Hope you like them!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12734910317997211409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-562685826327936588.post-84422275655120026732011-09-15T09:54:00.000-07:002011-09-16T11:03:52.611-07:00A Pumpkin Hat for FallI love Fall! I love seeing the leaves change, feeling the cooler weather, and I love pumpkins! So, I decided to knit a pumpkin hat in order to make Fall seem even closer then it is (where I live it is just barely starting to feel like it).

This pumpkin hat is also from a pattern found in Susan B. Anderson's book Itty-Bitty Hats. It is sized for 0-6 months old, and would look great for Fall photos! I made it using Swish Worsted yarn from Knit Picks (my favorite yarn to use for knitting baby things since it is so soft), and it is 100% Superwash Merino Wool. Which means it is machine washable and it gets softer with every washing.

I love the ridges in this hat, because it reminds me of the ridges found in real pumpkins! The ridges aren't as noticeable until the hat is being worn. The leaf is only attached at the base of the stem so the leaf will still move a little (like a real leaf found on a pumpkin).

Hope you like it!! I'm selling this hat for $16 (not including shipping), and it is also first come first serve. Be the first one to email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com or to leave a comment on this post saying you would like to buy it and the hat is your's! :)
Hopefully I can keep up with this goal at least until the baby arrives! ;)

This is called the Pink Paper Bag hat (so called since it looks like a bag), and is from a pattern from the book Itty-Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson. I love this book! This hat is made using Swish Worsted yarn by Knit Picks and is 100% Superwash Merino Wool (it is machine washable). This also means that with every washing the hat will get softer and softer. The darker pink stripes seem to give it a ruffled look, but it will mostly straighten out when it is being worn. It will still have the baggy effect though which I think gives it character. I think this hat would be perfect for photo sessions! The hat is sized for 6-12 months, and I'm selling it for $18 (plus shipping). This is first come first serve! :)

If you are interested in buying this hat, please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com or comment on this post. I'll look at the time you emailed me or posted the comment to see who was first.
