Knitted Hats for Adults

It's that time of year (even though it's so hot) to start thinking about cooler weather and Christmas gifts!! These hats will make great Christmas presents and keep your head and ears nice and toasty when the weather turns cold!

This hat is knit using 100% superwash merino wool (Swish DK from Knit Picks in Moss). The pattern is called Union Long Beanie by Connie Chang Chinchio and is listed in the book Weekend Hats by Cecily Glowik Macdonald and Melissa Labarre. I absolutely love the patterns in this book!!

The pattern for this hat is called Leaves Long Beanie by Melissa Labarre, & is also included in the book Weekend Hats by Cecily Glowik Macdonald & Melissa Labarre. I knit this hat using 100% superwash merino wool (Swish Worsted from Knit Picks in Carnation).

My wonderful sister, Angela, was kind enough to model these hats for my pictures. :)
These hats are $25 each (not including shipping) & can be made in different colors if you prefer. Paypal is now a payment option!! Email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com if you would like to place an order.

More Baby Hats for Sale

I'm finally getting this post up about some more baby hats I have for sale! I usually post my hats and other items on my Knitted by Amanda Facebook page right after they are completed, but it takes me longer to post them on here. Make sure if you haven't already to like my Facebook page so you can be notified of what is for sale sooner! :)

This striped stocking hat reminds me of Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, but my husband thinks it looks like Where's Waldo...lol! Whichever you would like to call it, this baby hat is for sale for $20 (not including shipping). It's made out of 100% superwash merino wool (so is machine washable), and is sized for 0-6 months.

This is a stocking hat with a twisted stitch design that is sized for newborn. I used three different types of yarn when I made this hat. The maroon/merlot twisted stitch design and pom is made with 100% superwash merino wool (from Knit Picks). The rest of the hat is double-stranded using Polo dark brown mix (26% cotton & 74% acrylic) & Polo light brown mix (26% cotton & 74% acrylic) that I bought from Yarn Heaven. It is machine washable! I'm selling it for $25 (not including shipping). I will no longer be offering this hat in this color combination, so if you would like to purchase this hat, then please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com

This brown, green, & blue striped long stocking hat is 20 inches long and is sized for 0-6 months. It's one of my favorite baby hats! I made it using 100% superwash merino wool that is machine washable. This could make a very cute photo prop!! I'm selling it for $20 (not including shipping).
Please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.co
m if you are interested in buying any of these hats. I just added a paypal option to make it even easier/faster to place your order!  :)

Baby Cocoon inspired by The Hungry Caterpillar

Today I finished knitting my first baby cocoon, and now I have some ideas about doing some more that will be a little different. If you haven't seen them before, I usually see them used in newborn photography. The pictures are adorable!!

The yarn I used was Swish Tonal from Knit Picks and the color is called Canopy. I thought the shades of blue & green were perfect for it! It's a worsted yarn that is a little more expensive ($14.95 per hank) then what I usually order, but it is a 100 gram hank. It is 100% superwash merino wool so it is machine washable.

I ended up knitting this with 2 hanks at the same time to make it thicker. I used larger needles then what I've been knitting with too (size 13 circular). I love knitting with larger needles because it usually helps me finish my project so much faster! That's so nice when the only times I can knit are during Logan's nap times.

The cocoon is pretty stretchy but is about 18 inches long unstretched and is about 8 inches in diameter unstretched. I used a rolled brim for the opening so it can be rolled down if it needs to be shorter. I'm selling this for $45. If you would like to purchase this then please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com

New baby hat for sale

After knitting the bunny hats, I decided to knit some more baby hats but I wanted to make some that I've never made before. So I went looking through my large (and still growing) yarn stash, and found some "fancy" yarn that I've been meaning to use.

I really enjoyed working with this yarn because it is so soft! It is called Dream and is from Dark Horse Yarns. I got it from Yarn Heaven last year, and have been waiting for the inspiration to use it. :) The hardest part about it was undoing stitches (it's difficult to see where the stitches are when they aren't on the needle because of the fuzzy parts) and sewing in the ends. I had to learn a new technique since I didn't have large enough double-pointed needles (what I usually use when knitting baby hats). I used two circular needles (different lengths so I could tell them apart) that were size 13.

This is the result! I'm calling this the Fuzzy Who hat. Apparently all the Dr. Suess that I've been reading & watching with Logan are showing up in my work! Lol! This hat is for sale for $30 (more expensive yarn). It is very soft and made of 100% nylon. It's hand wash only. If you would like to buy it then email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com. This hat just sold!!

This is the Shiny Who hat & is now up for sale and is the same design as the first one. The yarn is different though. Instead of being fuzzy like the first one it is boucle but is soft too. It is shiny/metallic and has shades of blue and green. The yarn is from the Plymouth Italian Collection and is called Firenze Boucle. It is 30% wool, 30% acrylic, & 40% nylon. This hat is handwash only! I also got it last year from Yarn Heaven when I was in the Dallas area. I wish there was a yarn shop near me, but unfortunately there isn't.

I'm selling this hat for $35 (more expensive yarn) and it is sized 0-3 months. This hat would also make a great photography prop when taking baby pictures! :)  If you would like to buy it then be the first to email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com.

Happy Easter!

I was so excited to begin knitting Logan's bunny hat for Easter, but I couldn't decide how I wanted to do it. I decided to do something a little different instead of just making it a solid color. I wanted to make a striped bunny hat, so I tried making it using blue and brown yarn that I already had on hand. It turned out way too dark, so I ordered some "Spring" colored yarn and hoped it would come in time for me to make it before Easter. Luckily it did and I was able to make his and I also made another to sell. I made Logan's out of blue and white yarn, but I couldn't decide what to do with the ears. In the end I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! What do you think?

This hat is for sale and is sized 0-6 months, and is made out of 100% superwash merino wool. So it is machine washable and will get softer with every wash. I'm selling it for $18 (not including shipping).  If you are interested in buying it, email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com :)

This hat has been sold! :)

Pink Bunny hat for Sale

This hat is for sale in time for Easter! It is sized 0-6 months and is made from 100% superwash merino wool. It's machine-washable and is pretty soft, but will get softer with every wash! I can also put a bow on it if wanted. I'm selling it for $16 (not including shipping or the cost of a bow if added). If you are interested in buying it, please email me at knittedbyamanda@hotmail.com .

I'm going to make some more bunny hats to sell. What color/colors do you think I should use? I could knit this hat using stripes as well. What sizes?

If you are interested in placing an order, please let me know very soon. I won't be making very many.  :)

Back in the Saddle Again (or giving my knitting needles a job again) :)

It's been awhile, but I'm finally starting to knit again. Yea!! My son is about to be 3 months (on Friday) and is sleeping all night. Since I'm a little more rested, I have started to put my "itching to knit" fingers to work again.

I've started knitting a slip-stich sampler throw to work on color-work. So far I really like it! I don't knit very many blankets because they take so long to finish, and this one is going to be fairly large. So far every blanket I've made I've given away as gifts, but I think I'm going to keep this one. :)

I downloaded the free knitting pattern from the Lion Brand Yarn website. They suggest using Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn, but I'm using Knit Picks Brava Worsted yarn. I've never used this yarn before since it's pretty new to Knit Picks, but I'm liking it! It's 100% premium acrylic so it's pretty easy care which is what I needed. It's machine washable which is very important to me especially now! :)  I'm using 9 different colors: Umber Heather, Paprika, Currant, Denim, Dublin, Cobblestone Heather, Fig, Camel Heather, & Solstice Heather. I'm also using my Addi Turbo circular knitting needles (my favorite needles) size 8 instead of straight needles.

The throw is made up of 6 large squares that are sewn together (my least favorite part!). Each square is worked the same except for the color combinations. The squares begin with a center square each and are then worked in a log cabin fashion by picking up stitches for each log.

I've never done much "color-work" before but since this pattern uses slip stitches, it's much easier then I thought it would be. I'm not looking forward to sewing all the ends of the yarn strands or sewing the large squares together however! Oh well...I think / hope it will turn out pretty. :)

I'm almost finished with the first large square, so I'll post pictures as I finish them.
